# `rate_limit.exceeded` — Rate limit exceeded

**HTTP status:** 429  
**Retryable:** yes — the same request may succeed later (reuse your Idempotency-Key)

## When it happens

Too many requests in a short time for this key. `X-RateLimit-*` headers show the limit and when it resets.

## What to do

Wait for the number of seconds in `Retry-After`, then retry. Spread calls out and cache search results.
