The Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2027 is Hong Kong's biggest road race. It takes place over two days, on 16 and 17 January 2027. The Marathon, Half Marathon, 10km and Wheelchair Race are on Sunday 17 January, and a new 5km Harbourfront Run and the Youth Run are on Saturday 16 January. It suits runners, running clubs and supporters planning a winter sports trip to Hong Kong.

About the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon
The race is organised by the Hong Kong, China Association of Athletics Affiliates (HKAAA), with Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong) as title sponsor. The organiser says the main races for 2027 have a record quota of 78,000 places, after the Half Marathon quota was raised by 4,000 to 29,000. With the Saturday events added, the organiser says a total of 84,000 runners can take part over the two days.
The organiser also reports strong demand: its October 2026 news update says main race registration reached a record of over 140,000 entries. Places in the main races are allocated through registration phases and a public ballot, so not everyone who applies receives a place.
The race weekend includes:
- Marathon, Half Marathon, 10km and Wheelchair Race on Sunday 17 January;
- the new 5km Harbourfront Run on Saturday 16 January, a flat waterfront course from Kai Tak Sports Park to Shing Kai Road Garden along the Kai Tak Promenade;
- the Youth Run for 10- to 15-year-olds, also on Saturday;
- a Marathon Expo at Kai Tak Arena, which the organiser says has attracted over 100,000 attendees a year.

How to get to Hong Kong for the Hong Kong Marathon
International runners fly into Hong Kong International Airport (HKG), which has wide connections across Asia, the Gulf and Africa. The Airport Express train runs to Kowloon and Hong Kong Island, and buses, taxis and private transfers are also available.
On race weekend, the MTR is the easiest way to reach start areas early in the morning. For a trip to Hong Kong for the Hong Kong Marathon, plan to arrive at least two days before race day so runners can collect race kits, visit the expo and rest after the flight. Check the official entry requirements for Hong Kong for each traveller.
Where to stay
Popular areas for runners are Tsim Sha Tsui and Jordan in Kowloon, and Wan Chai, Admiralty and Causeway Bay on Hong Kong Island, all with good MTR links. For the Saturday 5km run and the expo, Kowloon City and To Kwa Wan are close to Kai Tak.
Marathon weekend brings tens of thousands of runners into the city, so book early and choose hotels near an MTR station for early starts.
Planning a group trip to the Hong Kong Marathon
A group tour to the Hong Kong Marathon works well for running clubs, corporate wellness teams and families. Tips for agencies building a package:
- Entries first: runners must register through the official channels and may be subject to a ballot. Confirm each runner's place before confirming flights and hotels.
- Two-day option: the Saturday 5km Harbourfront Run gives beginners and family members a race of their own.
- Package content: flights, three or four hotel nights, airport transfers and an optional recovery day with a harbour cruise or Victoria Peak visit.
- Supporters: offer twin and family rooms and simple sightseeing for non-runners.
