About the World Judo Championships

The World Judo Championships are organised every year by the International Judo Federation (IJF) and bring together the world's best judoka in all weight categories for men and women. Unlike the IJF World Tour events, these are full world championships, so the titles carry special weight.

Kazakhstan has a strong judo tradition and has hosted IJF events before, and judo is popular across Central Asia, the Caucasus, North Africa and the Gulf. Several Arab countries send athletes to the World Tour and to world championships, and the event is a natural draw for their supporters, clubs and federations.

Each day usually covers a set of weight categories, with preliminary rounds earlier in the day and medal contests later. The official IJF competition page publishes the draw, the schedule and live results.
